Mattress Covers

Mattress covers can be excellent solutions in many situations, from allergies to bed wetting. Choosing the right mattress cover to solve the problem, however, may be difficult. For one thing, mattress covers come in many shapes and sizes for various types of bedding and application. One example of a specialized mattress cover is the futon mattress cover. This is usually thicker than a standard sheet because the futon will double as a couch, and the material of the futon mattress covers needs to be durable for constant use. Also, a daybed mattress cover will typically be a sheet that has a longer, more decorative side to hang down toward the floor. This may also be a more durable material, since daybeds are also frequently used for seating.

In the case of a waterbed mattress cover, the material may be quilted or layered. The idea of using this sort of cover is to insulate the body from the chill of the waterbed, which doesn’t maintain the warmth of other beds due to the water filling. Heated mattress covers can be great in such an application or can be used in rooms where there is a draft or the heat simply doesn’t work as well, especially in the winter. Heated electric mattress covers are also excellent for individuals with muscle and joint pain, as well as some older individuals who become chilled easily.

A foam mattress cover can be used to help provide cushioning over an old mattress or one with worn springs. Even if you feel that your mattress is simply too hard, a foam mattress cover can be used to help temper this problem. The thickness varies for different applications. A pillow top mattress cover may also provide an excellent solution to this annoyance.

For those who have severe allergies, it may be necessary to use allergy mattress covers. These block any allergens contained within the mattress and actually help to repel particles in the air that get caught in average materials so that you can sleep easy without irritation. Down mattress covers are often excellent choices for those with bad allergies, as is a sheepskin mattress cover. These mattress covers, zippered in an allergy reducing case, are usually safe for those with bad allergies.

When incontinence becomes a problem, a waterproof mattress cover can be employed to assure that no urine leaks into the mattress for permanent odor or stain issues. These are usually made of rubber and, like many other mattress covers, zippered so that the material can be washed and dried.
