Lifting Cushions
Lifting cushions are probably not the first devices you think of when you are trying to piece together the equipment you need to care for a handicapped or disabled loved one. However, a lifting cushion can make a great deal of difference in the difficulty of many daily functions for both you and your charge.
In the past, it was difficult or even impossible for a handicapped person to live alone with no assistance, especially when it came to getting in and out of a wheelchair to sit on furniture or to go to the bathroom. Lift cushions are designed to keep disabled individuals from having such difficulty in sitting on commodes, in chairs, or on other seats that are low to the ground and require a great deal of bending. By adding a lift cushion to the toilet seat in all the restrooms in the person’s home, some handicapped people are able to use the restroom by themselves because they can get enough leverage to move up and down from the higher seating position. Elderly individuals can also make use of these devices to maintain independence in their own homes.
A portable seat lift cushion can also enable the injured, disabled, or elderly individual to sit comfortably in anyone’s home or office. Rather than requiring assistance to sink into a soft couch or to rise again from that low slung position, the portable cushion can be placed, sat upon, and used to raise the height of the seat so that the person has more control over movement between sitting and standing.
A medical cushion lift may also have additional functionality. For example, a medical up lift cushion may be obtained with hydraulic lifting features to assist the disabled person up and down. These cushions can support up to 80% of the person’s body weight as it raises or lowers to help the person obtain a position that is almost completely upright and then to lower them to a fully seated position.
A portable lifting cushion like this can help people with disabilities sit and stand from almost anywhere, freeing them to travel, make visits to friends and family who do not have accessible homes, and even to work in an office environment with little trouble. Being handicapped has never meant not living life; however, with the assistance of products like lifting cushions, disabled people can live life to the fullest.
